Is psychotherapy for me?

People seek psychotherapy for various reasons. It might be that overwhelming emotions and experiences have become challenging to handle. Your relationships or other facets of life might be in crisis, or you may have endured childhood abuse and trauma, seeking a secure space to navigate and understand these experiences.

- How long will I need to attend therapy?

I offer both short-term and long-term psychotherapy. Whether it’s a few weeks, months, or an extended period, we’ll collaboratively determine the timeframe. Ultimately, you are the best judge of how long you need.

I recommend weekly sessions as it creates optimal conditions for us to effectively address and navigate through your challenges.

- How long will each session be?

Each session will last 50 minutes.

- What if you can't make it to a session?

Consistency is crucial for the therapeutic process, and we’ll establish set days and times for your sessions. These dedicated times are reserved for you. However, if unforeseen circumstances arise, and you need to reschedule a session, please provide at least 1 day (24 hours) notice. Failure to do so will result in a charge for the reserved time.

The terms “Counselling” and “Psychotherapy” are often used interchangeably, both falling under talking therapies. However, there are distinctions. Psychotherapy involves long-term work, delving into overall patterns, chronic issues, and recurring feelings, often exploring the impact of the past on the present. Counselling, on the other hand, may be more focused and shorter, addressing specific issues like bereavement or major life events. The key is ensuring you feel comfortable and safe in either approach.

- What if I no longer want to continue with the therapy?

There’s no obligation to continue therapy, and you’re free to end at any time. However, I encourage discussing this with me, as decisions are made collaboratively, even if it means therapy isn’t the right fit for you.

- How much does it cost?

All sessions, including assessments, have a fee of £55.00, payable via bank transfer before the session.

- What if I am late?

It is important that you arrive on time, as I cannot go beyond the end of the time slot.

I’m registered with and adhere to the Ethical Code of the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute (SPTI), a constituent member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
