Anger Management
Anger, a natural human response, emerges in the face of threats, deception, or painful experiences. While expressing anger is part of being human, it can turn problematic if not handled properly. Anger comes in various forms – buried, hidden, impulsive, intentional, habitual, defensive, and righteous. Pain, grief, stress, and low self-esteem, along with cultural and societal influences, can trigger anger.
When anger starts impacting relationships, work, and overall well-being, it becomes an issue. Unchecked anger can lead to both physical and mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. Recognizing signs of anger issues, like explosive outbursts and struggles with authority, is crucial. Psychotherapy aims to uncover underlying issues, triggers, and coping mechanisms. It involves delving into the origins of anger, reshaping reactive patterns, and cultivating healthier expressions of anger. The process also considers cultural, familial, and environmental factors shaping beliefs and behaviours related to anger.
As your therapist, my main goal is to help you in understanding and managing your anger in a healthy and constructive way. Through a therapeutic alliance built on trust and empathy, I collaborate with you to explore the root causes of your anger – be it past traumas, unresolved conflicts, or deep-seated emotional patterns. I offer psychoeducation, shedding light on the nature of anger, its physical impacts, and the potential consequences of uncontrolled expressions. Together, we craft tailored coping strategies, drawing from mindfulness practices, cognitive restructuring, and communication skills training. My aim is to empower clients to identify and navigate their triggers effectively, fostering personal growth and cultivating healthier emotional expression. Through ongoing assessment and adjustment of our therapeutic approach, my goal is to ensure you not only gain control over your anger but also experience improved overall well-being and enriched interpersonal relationships.
